This is a wonderful book--affirming, funny and inspirational. It gives great insight into the culture of the Y as an institution. It also gives a lot of practical advice as to how to stay in shape--physically, mentally and emotionally. Finally, while I am not a fan of "self-help" books, this one does have a lot of advice on life's lessons which puts things in good perspective.
As a non Y member I have to say that I certainly learned the value of "community" offered by this wonderful organization and its impact on ordinary people living ordinary lives in an extraordinary way. This book is heartwarming, honest, inspirational and speaks to the magnitude of "human spirit." The collection of stories will make you laugh and cry. It highlights how important the human element is in our daily lives, connecting with people, staying positive and enjoying the journey. This is a quick read that will stay with you. I guarantee after reading this book you will reflect on the message "it's a choice" every day.

Life, as it is to many, may seem humdrum,routine,and sometimes meaningless but Not to this author. Lamia describes people, incidence and challenges he meets every day at the Y in witty, and you might say"plain language". It is a quick read that will touch your heart, make you laugh and encourage you to see the extraordinary in every day life.That choice is up to us. Highly recommend the book.
