A Christmas Carol in Prose Being a Ghost Story of Christmas by Charles Dickens. From the author's preface "I have endeavored in this ghostly little book to raise the ghost of an idea, which shall not put any readers out of humor with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly." First published in December 1843, the story has been in continuous print ever since. A true treasure that never grows old.

Nice cover and illustrations, but the publisher has added a forward that manages to be transphobic, homophobic and emphasizes a conservative Christian viewpoint while railing against political correctness. I was just trying to buy a copy of a classic, not stumble into an angry comments section. Bonus: the pages tear our easily.Product details

A Christmas Carol A Christmas Carol in Prose Being a Ghost Story of Christmas (Audible Audio Edition) Charles Dickens Mike Vendetti Spoken Realms Books Reviews
I had put reading "A Christmas Carol" off for years, until I finally saw this beautiful copy and said, "What the hay?" Best decision I've ever made! There's no secret as to why this book has become a classic. The writing is beautiful and sucks you into a world filled with holiday cheer. Scrooge is as nasty as ever, but Dickens knows how to make you root for the character in the end. And each ghost has a mind of its own. Very much worth any price set on it, especially this copy, which is nice and small. A quick read for a good fuzzy feeling of holiday cheer!
This classic tale is every bit as great as it's reputation. I'd seen all the movies and enjoyed them but never actually read the book. Well I will tell you this. It is definitely worth the time and I'm not talking about much time. This is actually a quick read. Having seen all the films, I read the dialogue, pretty much already knowing all of it, nearly word for word. It's worth reading, though, for Dickens' prose which flows wonderfully across the page. Of all the classics I've read, this one ranks very high on my list.
This is a nice version of A Christmas Carol, but I was hoping it would be a more accurate reproduction of the first printing. It has a printed hardcover, but not leather with gilded graphic and text like the first edition was. It also does not have the gilded page edges like the original. The biggest downfall is that the original illustrations are poor quality. Still nice overall.
We all know Charles Dicken's work is a timeless classic. That is a given, and so my review will only be about the quality of the overall book and artwork.
Fantastic. Such a well put together edition of this amazing story. Strong binding, sturdy stock. And the artwork by PJ Lynch is stellar. I instantly bought another book with his illustrations after buying this one. He creates such a strong mood fitting with this iconic Christmas Ghost story. And there aren't just a few pictures, the book is filled with his art. Very happy with this purchase.
Patrick Stewart gives the voice performance for the ages in this reissue of the original production that became a tradition in our home a quarter century ago. Only an actor of Stewart's sublime talent could achieve what he does in this beautifully done interpretation of Dicken's classic masterpiece. Perhaps you think you've seen this done far too many times and probably believe nothing more can be done with this, especially if you saw Jim Carey's super-odd animated abomination or been stunned by Mr. McGoo's version. There has been some good work done by many actors, from Reginald Owen to George C. Scott. The Muppets, with the superb assistance of Michael Caine, did a fantastic job. However, by leading the mind's eye through our own imaginations, Sir Patrick is an absolutely wondrous guide. Indeed, this is not simply one of the truly excellent Christmas Carol's, it also is one of the finest voice performances ever recorded. In a time when we are bombarded by visual stimulation constantly and radio dramas are all but forgotten, this would be a incredible introduction for young people to the world of personal imagination as a single voice enacts a story and the pictures originate in their minds. Stewart is masterful and each Christmas we celebrate his gift to us by listening as a family as he brings A Christmas Carol to life for us. Sadly, this might all be coming to an end as everyone texts, tweets, and instagrams and attention spans are measured in microseconds. For now, I live with the illusion that the old tradition continues and I am at peace with that. Sir Patrick Stewart is still part of my Christmas and is performance is mesmerizing as all the people in the Dicken's tale come to life in my imagination.
I bought this last year at Christmastime and never had the opportunity to listen to it until recently. My parents and I absolutely love it !
I have always adored Patrick Stewart's video version of a Christmas Carol, he is one of the best Scrooge's ever ! In this version it is just him reading the entire book with no sound effects, he does all of the voices brilliantly. You are drawn into the story from beginning to end.
This is a masterpiece of acting. You will be enthralled by the entire production. You will feel like you are there in Merry Old England as a part
of the story. Mr. Stewart has one of the best voices in the business !
I purchased this "unabridged" copy of the Dickens' classic for my 6th grader's literature class. I have a hardback copy at home, but he needed one he could take to school and make notes in. We found entire paragraphs missing, typos, and the table of contents does not list out the separate staves, making it very confusing. My son has tried to use this for school, but it has been too confusing for him to follow along in class, since the paragraphs and breaks don't match up with the books his peers are using. If you are looking for an inexpensive copy of A Christmas Carol, find another option! This one is definitely not a legitimate unabridged copy, and is a terrible option if the book is for school. I am purchasing another copy for my son.
Nice cover and illustrations, but the publisher has added a forward that manages to be transphobic, homophobic and emphasizes a conservative Christian viewpoint while railing against political correctness. I was just trying to buy a copy of a classic, not stumble into an angry comments section. Bonus the pages tear our easily.
